Middleton Festival and Live Painting

Wanted to share some photos from this past weekend at the Middleton Good Neighbor Festival! I also made a time-lapse/video of the live painting I did on Sunday – you can check it out at the end of this post.

I spent Saturday painting miniature watercolor flowers/cacti to hand out….middleton art fairmiddleton art fair

And on Sunday, I did some live painting for a 30″ x 40″ large-scale floral bouquet. I started off by sketching out my plan on the canvas and filling in the main blocks of color….acrylic painting demo

Then added more and more details….acrylic painting demomiddleton art fair

Had lots of fun painting outside in the fresh air and talking some folks through the process!

Here’s the time-lapse of the painting, hope you enjoy it!

Seattle Weekend Photographs

I shared my Vlog from Seattle the other day, and now here are the pictures!

My favorite part of the weekend was probably the harbor tour – the weather was great and you can see such great views of the Seattle skyline.

We also visited the Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibit – love the way light interacts and refracts through the glass art there.

And we watched the sunset from the top of the Space Needle…

I used the Lens story kit to document this trip – it was perfect since we spent a lot of this trip filming/photographing.

I hope I get to revisit Seattle soon!

Seattle Weekend Vlog

I got a GoPro for Christmas last year and have had a blast using it to capture video memories. Recently, I’ve been compiling some short videos using my footage. Here’s one from a weekend in Seattle earlier this year:

Seattle 2017 from Kate Hollingsworth on Vimeo.

This is mostly edited in GoPro Studio and Adobe Premier, using some of the wide selection of music GoPro has available to work with your videos.

I really enjoyed the process of the video editing – choosing shots, syncing music beats with the camera tracking, and arranging the clips to tell a story.

I’ll share some photos from Seattle later next week. We had great weather all weekend and walked as much as we could. I loved it there!

Grand Canyon

One of the perks of traveling to Arizona for work so often for a couple years? Trips to the Grand Canyon!

I would drive from Phoenix to Flagstaff, and from Flagstaff to the South Rim of Grand Canyon….

There’s easy walking and hiking along the rim, with the expansive views of the Canyon around you. I like to go a little later around noon to miss the morning rush and watch the sunset.

It’s the kind of place I keep wanting to visit again and again.

Capri, Italy

The Island of Capri is a ferry ride away from the seaside town of Sorrento on the Southern side of Italy where we stayed. We headed to the island bright and early on Monday with the sun just starting to warm the waters…

We took a boat tour around the island and into the Blue Grotto, or Grotta Azzurra, a cave that shines bright blue due to the way the sunlight refracts up and through the water:

After seeing the island from around the edges, we headed up to the highest point via chair lift… my favorite part of the day!

As you float up, you can take in views of the whole of Capri, the Bay of Naples with Mt. Vesuvius in the distance, and the bright sparkling Mediterranean water…

From the top of Mt. Solaro, we hiked a meandering path all the way back down to the harbor. It took a few hours longer than we expected (bring lots of water if you give this a try), but the views were amazing the whole time.

See more from our trip to the Amalfi Coast in this post about Positano.

If you are in the Naples area and have time for an extra day trip, Capri is a beautiful stop. 🙂

I think Capri, Italy is one of my favorite day trips in the Mediterranean!

Positano, Italy

Positano, Italy is full of breathtaking views, Mediterranean sea breezes, and stairs. Lots and lots of stairs.

The bus that rides along the Amalfi coast can drops you off along the main road near the top of the town. Here you can see some amazing views from the high vantage point:

I walked down and down and down on my way to grab lunch by the beach….

Walking through Positano

And then enjoyed the beach all afternoon…

Worth it. 🙂

New Orleans, 1990

In 1990, New Orleans and me… we looked like this:

New Orleans, 1990
Bourbon Street, 1990

This weekend, I’m Louisiana bound again. So we’ll see how much things have changed!

To set the mood, some New Orleans tunes: jazz, r&b, funk… you know the drill. I pulled together a few fave songs for the road. You can listen, too — just check out the playlist here: Down to New Orleans by Kate on Grooveshark

Any other New Orleans music suggestions out there? Let me know in the comments!

Gulf Coast 2k13

I like to make pictures with film. But… I always take a while getting the film developed. And when I do bring it in? It’s full of surprise, long-forgotten photos.

So now it’s December, and I love the cold. But these fresh prints have me thinking about the warmth of the beach…
